Large Eddy Model

The Met Office Large Eddy Model (LEM) is a state-of-the-art model for large-eddy simulation and cloud resolving modelling (CRM).

Its primary uses are for the modelling of clouds and atmospheric flows. The results of these simulations help us to develop the physics parameterizations in the Unified Model.

Comparison with other models and observations from field campaigns demonstrate that the LEM is able to well represent a wide range of cloud types under a number of environmental conditions. Based on these process studies we are able to better understand the fundamental behaviours of clouds, microphysics and turbulence. (Source: Met Office)
