N8CIR new HPC system - the venerable Bede

A new computer system will soon (summer 2020) be available based at Durham fot tje N8 consortium of Universities to access. Predominantly the work ought to be EPSRC funded, but there is a fraction available for each of the institutes. See https://www.dur.ac.uk/arc/events/nice19/ for detail.

The nodes will have 2xIBM Power9 CPU (32 nodes) with attached 4xNVIDIA V100 GPU cards that have NVLink within the node.  The nodes are similar to those on "Summit" at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

They are keen for the novel software i.e. code using GPU acceleration to be used on the system. It is not huge so exploratory work is probably the way forward.
